Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Area(s):

Today I was on my way home from work, and decided to take a drive down a road that I had known about for a while but never got around to checking out. And I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.  I only had a brief time to explore, but from what I did see, I would have to say that I will definitely be heading back up this way fairly soon.

The rock formations in this hidden little canyon are extraordinary!  There are canyons, caves, and crevices to explore everywhere you turn.  I was convinced I was going to find my first rock art site today, but that did not pan out.  However, I am sure that with some further expeditions/exploration I will come across something at some point.

Here are some photos from the day:

Awesome Views

Hello everyone,
My name is Ryan and this is my blog.  I enjoy everything about the outdoors and this blog will definitely be a strong reflection on that, and the many activities that get me out there (hiking, backpacking, fishing...).  I am relatively young, 24, and still plan on doing/seeing much of what this amazing planet has to offer me.  Since there is so much right here in my "backyard," I do however feel a certain urge to spend most of my time here seeing what I have always wondered about. So, most of what you read here will be about Southern California, mainly the Santa Monica Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, but occasionally other hobbies take me to the coast and the inland lakes and reservoirs around the area.  Hopefully I don't bore you too much, otherwise you shouldn't be reading this, it is a free country. Anyway, enough of that, here are some of the things that I enjoy so much about being outside...
